Shri Chandan Roy is a revered vocalist, composer, and teacher whose illustrious musical journey spans over five decades of devotion, practice, and teaching. His name is synonymous with versatility, discipline, and artistic brilliance in Indian music.
His first initiation into Indian Classical Music came under the guidance of Shri Debendranath Biswas, followed by intensive training in Dhrupad under Shri Jogendranath Bandopadhyay. Over the years, he enriched his repertoire by learning from legendary maestros such as Smt. Kheya Chattopadhyay, Shri Manabendra Mukhopadhyay, Shri Biman Mukhopadhyay, Shri Bimal Bhandari, and Shri Salil Bhowmik.
With such profound training, Shri Roy mastered diverse musical forms including Classical, Semi-Classical, Dhrupad, Ragpradhan, Nazrul Geeti, and Modern Bengali Songs. His unique versatility as a vocalist, lyricist, and composer has established him as an artist who seamlessly bridges tradition with creativity.
Beyond performance, his most remarkable contribution lies in his over 50 years of teaching experience. Many of his disciples have themselves grown into established performers and respected teachers, carrying forward his legacy.
